Go On Tilt How to Turn Gambling Success into Disaster

Go on tilt or going on tilt that’s the terms given by poker players, but it can occur to any gambler who has every placed a bet. Go on tilt for a few minutes and watch everything you’ve worked so hard for disappear.

What is going on tilt? If you gamble, I can almost guarantee you have experienced it at one time or another. It’s that internal feeling of injustice that needs to be corrected, and you don’t care what you have to do to correct it. You’ve lost control, succumbed to your emotions, and given away any advantage you may have had.

Go On Tilt

Going On Tilt

After a player receives a few “bad beats” is the usual time to go on tilt, but it can happen at any moment. Just a split second of irrationality and you’ve lost your winning ways. I can still remember the game a few years ago it was the Yankees vs. the Mets at Yankee stadium. I had the Mets to win as a pretty heavy underdog and it was a substantial bet. Bottom of the ninth, two outs, and runners at first and second, the Mets led 8-7, and A-rod was at bat. He hit a weak pop up to second base. Yes, Luis Castillo the second baseman dropped the routine pop fly. To make matters worse, he could have thrown home to get the second runner to at least preserve a tie, but instead he threw to second and the winning run scored.

What followed was me going on tilt. I instantly doubled the amount of my next bet for no apparent reason other than I was angry and wanted the money I should have won. Of course the next bet proceeded to lose and it just made a bad situation worse.

What about when you’re playing video poker for hours on end, making all the right moves, on a high payback machine, but you’re getting killed. It has been five hours since your last four of a kind and you can’t remember the last time you hit a full house. The anger takes over and you go on tilt. You decide to up your level of play to the $5 denomination ($25 a hand) machine even though you know your bankroll is insufficient. The losses keep coming, but now at a much higher rate.

These are situations that all gamblers face and only the strongest willed make it through unscathed. Going on tilt too often can cause the end to an advantage gambler’s career. It is something that every gambler faces and the most successful are the ones who see it for what it is a “bad beat.” You should have won the bet but you didn’t. Keep making the mathematically correct decisions and it will all work out in the end, easier said than done.

Maybe this is the first time you’ve heard the terms “Go on tilt” or “Going on tilt,” but the next time you get that feeling of losing control realize what is going on and try to allow your rational mind to remain in control.

About Greg Elder

I was 37 years old, a husband and father, a former teacher, college and high school basketball coach, and a business owner, I decided to give it all up (Not the husband and father part) to take a shot at pro gambling. I was coming off a job I hated selling insurance, and I vowed to do something I was passionate about. For the next year I would spend 12-15 hours a day researching, studying, and practicing advantage gambling techniques. The goal was to see if I could sustain our current lifestyle as a professional gambler. I wanted to find out if casinos really could be beat. At the time, I thought it may be the biggest mistake of my life, but my intentions were to have fun trying. It has been an interesting few years since that journey began. My feature book GAMBLERS FIGHT BACK has been released and can be purchased on my author site at www.GREGELDERAUTHOR.com I would consider my pro gambling career to be a success on all fronts. I didn't win millions of dollars, but I was able to enjoy every minute of it. It brought an excitement and passion back into my professional life. It has helped lead me to a writing career that I had no idea I even wanted before this challenge. I was able to write a book that shared with others exactly what I learned along the way.. Gambling professionally is not easy, but there are certain things the average gambler can do to increase their chances of success tremendously. That's the information I try to pass along to my readers.
