Video Poker Strategy – Taking Your Game to the Next Level

Many of you have taken the step to play video poker instead of slot machines. You know they offer better odds, so you have the right intentions in mind. Unfortunately, your video poker strategy is lacking. You haven’t taken the next step which is learning the correct strategy and tips regarding video poker.

There are two major problems:

Problem #1- Don’t Play Machines with Best Payback

Most people choose the video poker game they play based on the “fun” factor. That’s not a very good video poker strategy if you’re really trying to win. You should be choosing the game with the best pay table. Often times, especially on the east coast, that is 9/6 Jacks or Better. JOB may not be as fun as Double Double Bonus or Deuces Wild, but remember what the goal is: to give you the best chance to win.

Problem #2- Don’t Learn Proper Video Poker Strategy

The mathematically correct decision to make on each hand you are dealt in a video poker game cannot be figured out through rational deduction. Sure most hands are common sense, but there are about 10% of the hands that need to be practiced and learned to figure out the proper strategy. If you’re not making the correct decisions you’re not getting the full payback from the machine.

The hard work has already been done for you. You don’t have to use complicated mathematical formulas to figure out what is your best play, all you have to do is get a program where it will let you know when you make a mistake, or get a strategy chart that tells you what to hold.

The best place to learn is or if you really want the most comprehensive video poker software on the market, Video Poker for Winners, is right for you. I suggest starting with and decide how far you want to take your game. If you feel like you want to take your game to the professional level then I suggest using both.

I’m glad you decided to play video poker instead of slots, but if you’re not playing good machines and haven’t spent the time learning the proper video poker strategy, your payback may be as low as slot players. Take advantage of the higher video poker payback. Put some time in, learn, and practice. This doesn’t guarantee success, but it sure does give you a better statistical chance of going home with money in your pocket.

About Greg Elder

I was 37 years old, a husband and father, a former teacher, college and high school basketball coach, and a business owner, I decided to give it all up (Not the husband and father part) to take a shot at pro gambling. I was coming off a job I hated selling insurance, and I vowed to do something I was passionate about. For the next year I would spend 12-15 hours a day researching, studying, and practicing advantage gambling techniques. The goal was to see if I could sustain our current lifestyle as a professional gambler. I wanted to find out if casinos really could be beat. At the time, I thought it may be the biggest mistake of my life, but my intentions were to have fun trying. It has been an interesting few years since that journey began. My feature book GAMBLERS FIGHT BACK has been released and can be purchased on my author site at I would consider my pro gambling career to be a success on all fronts. I didn't win millions of dollars, but I was able to enjoy every minute of it. It brought an excitement and passion back into my professional life. It has helped lead me to a writing career that I had no idea I even wanted before this challenge. I was able to write a book that shared with others exactly what I learned along the way.. Gambling professionally is not easy, but there are certain things the average gambler can do to increase their chances of success tremendously. That's the information I try to pass along to my readers.
