Pro Gambling Legend Bob Dancer Changed My Life – For the Better

Several years ago, I walked out of a job I hated selling insurance with no idea what I was going to do. I had a wife and 5-year-old little girl that I had to support. I was depressed and out of work. At that point I came across a book I had purchased several months before, and even to this day I have no idea why I bought it. I hadn’t purchased a gambling book since I was just out of college. The book was Million Dollar Video Poker by Bob Dancer and as they say, “The rest is history.”

Excerpt from soon to be released book titled, Gamblers Fight Back by Greg Elder

Book Gamblers Fight Back     Gambling was a passion, but how do I make money with it? Bob Dancer’s book was certainly inspiring in many ways, but I didn’t think I could do what he did. First of all, there is no way I’m moving my family to Las Vegas. I love Vegas, but I don’t want to raise my daughter there. The only pole in my daughter’s future better be the one used to determine if she won the gubernatorial race (poll), not the one you dance on.

Another big problem was the gambling discipline Bob Dancer spoke of. The only gambling discipline me and my wife had at this point was to leave the casino when we ran out of money. If there was a dollar left in our pocket, then we thought we still had a chance.

How would I suddenly become this disciplined gambler? Where would I get the money? It’s kind of hard to gamble without money. I still had a decent amount of sports memorabilia left from my business. I had planned to pass it down to my daughter, but I decided I would sell some.  The plan was set.

I refer to Bob several times in the book, but honestly it’s easy to assume his influence was gambling related, which it was, but it went well beyond that. His story of moving to Vegas with $6,000 to his name and becoming successful at something he loved to do was what really resonated with me. His discipline and commitment to be successful.

The biggest thing Bob did for me had nothing to do with gambling. He inspired me to do something that I was passionate about. Something that made me jump out of bed ready to go every morning. The realization that I can do whatever I want is what I’m most grateful for. Using this same thought process I came across a passion I had no idea I had, writing. Now I’m a full-time writer. What’s next? I don’t know, but I promise you it will be something that I can get excited about.

When we are young we are taught that we can do anything we want, but over the years that mindset gets blurred. Bob Dancer cleared my vision and I am grateful for it.

In my house Bob Dancer is known as “The Real Bobby D.”

I’ve purchased almost all of his products and they are all great. Check them out on his site: or click the image below.

About Greg Elder

I was 37 years old, a husband and father, a former teacher, college and high school basketball coach, and a business owner, I decided to give it all up (Not the husband and father part) to take a shot at pro gambling. I was coming off a job I hated selling insurance, and I vowed to do something I was passionate about. For the next year I would spend 12-15 hours a day researching, studying, and practicing advantage gambling techniques. The goal was to see if I could sustain our current lifestyle as a professional gambler. I wanted to find out if casinos really could be beat. At the time, I thought it may be the biggest mistake of my life, but my intentions were to have fun trying. It has been an interesting few years since that journey began. My feature book GAMBLERS FIGHT BACK has been released and can be purchased on my author site at I would consider my pro gambling career to be a success on all fronts. I didn't win millions of dollars, but I was able to enjoy every minute of it. It brought an excitement and passion back into my professional life. It has helped lead me to a writing career that I had no idea I even wanted before this challenge. I was able to write a book that shared with others exactly what I learned along the way.. Gambling professionally is not easy, but there are certain things the average gambler can do to increase their chances of success tremendously. That's the information I try to pass along to my readers.
