Latest Casino Slot Machines: Video Games?

Nationwide land-based casinos are suffering from the economic recession, but one good thing about economic hardship is it usually brings change. Now whether or not that change is positive is another issue entirely, but let’s hope that in the case of casinos it will be a positive change for gamblers and more specifically advantage gamblers.

Casinos are searching for the next “big thing.” They continue to evolve the traditional one-armed bandits into modernized versions of video slot machines, but that’s not what I’m referring to.

Anyone under 40, and certainly anyone under 30, has grown-up with video games as a primary means of entertainment. These days you are much more likely to find a group of kids staying up all-night playing Minecraft or Skyrim than you are to find an all-night game of pick-up basketball in the park. Video games have become a huge part of kids’ lives. In fact, every Saturday at my daughter’s soccer games I listen to parents complain about how they can’t get their son or daughter out of the house to play traditional sports. One father is found of telling his son to kick the ball like he does on the X-Box.

  • The point is, casinos are struggling and those under 40 are not taking to traditional slots at high rates. I like to think that this has something to do with the younger generations having more of a passion for games of skill than games of pure luck. It also has to do with their inability to be stimulated by three bars stopping on a line when they’ve grown up playing games with graphics that simulate virtual reality.
  • Slot manufacturers have tried to cater to this by implementing higher quality graphics and sound. The slots continue to evolve but the fact remains you are simply hitting a button or picking a symbol. In my mind the answer is simple. Bring video games to casinos in a regulated environment.

There have been several websites to offer wagering on video games, so my idea isn’t revolutionary. My point is to bring them into a regulated environment, land-based casinos, and you would solve problems on many fronts. When the games are held online there is the problem of under-age wagering. Also, online there is a much greater chance for cheating and unfair tactics. The trust factor is always more difficult online.

Video game manufacturers know how to make unbelievable games that millions enjoy playing. Casinos know how to create a safe, secure environment where people can gamble in comfort and luxury. It seems to me like a marriage made in heaven, but then again what do I know?

In a future article I will discuss the types of video games that would make the best games for wager. At first glance it seems that any game of skill would make a good game to wager on, but in reality there needs to be a component of luck involved to make it ideal.

Let me know your thoughts on this subject.

About Greg Elder

I was 37 years old, a husband and father, a former teacher, college and high school basketball coach, and a business owner, I decided to give it all up (Not the husband and father part) to take a shot at pro gambling. I was coming off a job I hated selling insurance, and I vowed to do something I was passionate about. For the next year I would spend 12-15 hours a day researching, studying, and practicing advantage gambling techniques. The goal was to see if I could sustain our current lifestyle as a professional gambler. I wanted to find out if casinos really could be beat. At the time, I thought it may be the biggest mistake of my life, but my intentions were to have fun trying. It has been an interesting few years since that journey began. My feature book GAMBLERS FIGHT BACK has been released and can be purchased on my author site at www.GREGELDERAUTHOR.com I would consider my pro gambling career to be a success on all fronts. I didn't win millions of dollars, but I was able to enjoy every minute of it. It brought an excitement and passion back into my professional life. It has helped lead me to a writing career that I had no idea I even wanted before this challenge. I was able to write a book that shared with others exactly what I learned along the way.. Gambling professionally is not easy, but there are certain things the average gambler can do to increase their chances of success tremendously. That's the information I try to pass along to my readers.
